China Climbing

Where can I climb in China?

Sport climbing:
Yangshuo, Guangxi province, near Guilin, South China. First Explored by Todd Skinner in the early 1990's Yangshuo now has over 500 routes from French 3a to 9a on the Karst towers. Mostly sport climbing with a few exceptions. See: www.yangshuoaccess.org for more information.

Fengshan also in Guangxi province is under development and will be of most intreats at the moment to cavers. The climbing there is mostly exploratory! But there are about 20 sport routes doted around. see: www.fengshan.info for more information.

Getuhe: a grate place for long hard sport climbing. Wild and remote with big walls and grate development opportunities. Click here to read about Eben’s trip and get information about the Petzl Rock trip 2011.

Hong Kong has lots of sport climbing and bordering. Visit: www.hongkongclimbing.com.

Dali - Some people are also building rock climbs in Yunnan's Dali, see www.climbdali.com.

Bouldering:
Hong Kong has the most developed bouldering in this part of the world, see www.hongkongclimbing.com.

A area with some granite boulders has also see some development; some information can be found here weston sichuan bouldering.

Traditional climbing:
This is where Laojunshan comes in. Laojunshan is all sandstone and for now at least has a traditional climbing ethic. (if you are coming from a UK climbing background you should add lots more cams to your rack especially big ones!

Ice climbing:
For now the best place to recommend for Ice climbing is Suangtiaogou, in Sigunyang national park, Sichuan Provinces. However we need to find a new location for this as to enter the park you need to pay lots of money and give your finger pints to enter! We should find a new winter climbing location.

Mountaineering:
China has lots of mountains and many unclimbed pikes. Just look at Sichuan, Yunnan and China’s Tibet on google earth to get an idea.
